TESTING THE LIGHT

Pink rose

I've been trying out the new light in our flat - the windows are huge! I didn't really have anything to hand that was exciting to photograph so settled for a rose from a bunch of flowers our landlord sent to us. Bit cliché maybe but looks pretty! Really looking forward to setting up a studio space so I can do more still life and products.

WEBSITE UPDATE

This week I have been making a few changes over on my website. I launched this new website domain a year ago now so I figured a yearly update to keep it fresh is the best thing for me and my pictures. I'm really loving the walled effect (I think that's what it is called?), with all images slotting nicely together as you scroll down. As always I'm still building my portfolio and I'm currently working on some new things to add on to there which should be up in the next few weeks. I'm also on the look out for fellow Yorkshire based folk to take portraits of for my creatives and their desks series (in the people section), so please do get in touch!

Also, whilst I'm on the subject of plugging myself, I have finally sorted out a Facebook page for my photography work. I know I'm about 10 years late to this party but I figured now is the right time...ha! So please pop over and like it and share it if you know anyone who is getting married, needs some portraits doing or would like some photos taking for their small biz..etc etc. Thank you thank you thank you!

EXPLORE: EMLEY SHOW

Emley show
As we have taken the leap and moved back up north after living in London for 6 years, we’re going to embrace everything Yorkshire has to offer. We went to a country show in a little village called Emley, which had everything you could want from country life - tractors, animals, ice cream, dry stone wall building (?!) and a dog show!
Emley showWhen we were living in London and also travelling around Europe I used to daydream about our life ahead and where we would live once we moved back to Yorkshire and what kind of life we would have. I knew we wanted a more outdoorsy life, with visits to the country side and everything else that comes with not living in a city and I think Emley show is pretty much what I imagined my northern summer days to be like (even though its only once a year!). Fully embracing it!

MOVING TO YORKSHIRE

Moving to Yorkshire
We have been back in the UK for 3 weeks now and in that time we’ve managed to find a flat…and move in! It’s pretty crazy how quick things can happen but its very nice to have our own space again. It was amazing living in our tent and very lovely living with family the past couple of weeks but there’s nothing quite like opening up your own drawers in your own house and finding some clean clothes (oh and not having to walk a mile to go to the loo!) We’ve only been in the flat for 3 days so we’re still getting use to the area and trying to find a place for all our belongings. We’re living in Leeds, in a little village called Menston which is not too far from Ilkley, so we kind of have the best of both worlds - a 15 minute train into the centre of Leeds or a 15 minute walk into the countryside. So far, so good but it is very different from London (obvs), the people, the weather, the atmosphere…London was our home so it’s going to take some time to adjust. I am however loving the cheaper rent (very handy when working as a freelance photographer!) and that there is a fish and chip shop at the end of our road, ha! Oh and the space in our flat, even though its still a one bedroom (rented) apartment…there is so much more space and we have huuuuuge windows which I can’t wait to take full advantage of for some food photography.

WE'RE BACK

Emley
We arrived back in the UK nearly two weeks ago now, it feels very strange as the 12 weeks we spent in the tent seemed to last forever (in a good way) but the past 14 days have just flown by! Not sure what that's all about?! I put a post up yesterday on our travel blog (link - Our Inflatable Home) of our route and some stats of the trip. Since we've been back we've managed to get away in the tent for a few days to a quaint village called Wheldrake not too far from York and spent time with both sides of our families. It's been really really lovely to be back and fingers crossed we've also found a flat to rent out in a placed called Guiseley not too far from Leeds, hopefully we should find out in the next few days if its definitely ours. It's pretty much out in the countryside so quite the change from London thats for sure! (if you live in the Leeds area, can we be friends??)

I'm starting to take on a few bits of photography work again too and I'm really looking forward to getting settled so I can get back in the swing of things and take on more (if you're getting married, looking for lifestyle/family shots then have a look here www.joannecrawford.com). And we're so excited to start exploring a new place. I've already started making my Yorkshire To Do list, very exciting! If you have any Yorkshire tips - especially pizza places then send 'em over!
