OH CHRISTMAS TREE

Christmassy weekend

Living in a teeny tiny London flat means that space is very limited and we definitely don't have enough room to squeeze a Christmas tree in, I wouldn't even know what to move to try and fit one in. So Steven came home with this little one which sits perfectly on our table, and luckily enough I found some tiny baubles at work to decorate it with. I used a few decorations left over from last years fun with air dry clay and the star is from some garlands that were too tangled to sort out so they got the chop. Very cute!

I've even made gingerbread men this year that I took to a Christmas gathering last week. These ones were vegan and had a more cakey texture then crunchy biscuit which was a nice surprise. I haven't baked for a long time as I don't really like our kitchen that much (its very small and gets very hot very quickly) but I enjoyed making these so hopefully it will give me the motivation to do some more baking...perhaps in the 11 whole days I have off from work! Yippee!

So that's it now, I'll see you on the other side. Hope you have a very merry christmas!

THE WEEKEND BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Weekend before xmas

Well it's officially Christmas this week, just three more days at work then its 'stuff my face till I can't stuff it no more time', for 11 whole days. I'm ready for the break.
This weekend was spent doing lots of Christmassy things to make sure I am firmly cemented in the festive mood.
We lit my new Christmas candle to fill the house with cinnamon and spice or whatever flavour it is, it's actually really lovely - not too sickly sweet for a christmas one (space.nk if you're wondering).

Weekend before xmas

Finally wrote out the remaining Christmas cards...after attempting to make my own I gave up and went with an M&S multipack, sometimes you've just got to know when to spend a fiver.

Weekend before xmas

Last week the latest branch of Honest Burgers opened up round the corner from my house. Yes, I have to walk past it everyday to and from work so to really get me tempted they sent me a voucher for a free burger...dangerous tactics.

I opted for a spiked winter warmer cocktail (rum!) which was delicious

And then I ordered the Tribute burger and Steven got the veggie one which is a fritter style, those rosemary fries are just...too good.

A couple of friends of ours saw us stuffing our faces through the window so we ended up next door at Brick Brewery for a few of drinks with them...its Christmas after all!

Sunday was spent wrapping presents, eating homemade squash soup and finally watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Officially Christmassed up to the eye balls.

GETTING CRAFTY

Craft

This week I finally got round to making (and finishing some!) Christmas presents which means I can relax a little now and spend my Saturday evenings until Christmas drinking that bottle of Baileys we bought. I'll share those pics after the big day though (of the crafts, not of me drunk!)
I have however, been busy making other bits and bobs for purely selfish reasons. The first one was this scarf that I knitted, I shared it on Instagram a little while ago but I have been wearing it non stop since I finished. Well it's actually ended up being a snood because it was a little too short for a scarf but wrapped round twice I think it looks fine. It only took about a year to make and cost approximately £30 in wool...but...I did make it myself and all that!

Craft

I've had this plain white lampshade hanging around for ages now and I keep meaning to do something with it, originally I had planned to do some fancy stitching patterns but in the end I settled for covering it with this lovely Liberty fabric.

A nice bright addition to our living room.

Craft

This wooden crate was lying around on the side at work so I grabbed it at the first chance I got - I can't resist a crate or an empty hamper for that matter, I will always find something to put in it.
I gave it a lick of grey paint and now it lives next to the sofa and has all my crafty bits in, purely because they were scattered all over the floor and I kept losing needles, whoops... but this has solved everything!

Craft

When I have made things in the past that I have seen on Pinterest it is very rarely a success...but I have to say this this cute little pouch I made for a friends birthday present turned out not bad at all. I worked out an envelope template, ordered some soft leather off ebay and I was away! I did have a slight problem with the pouch gaping a bit but thats nothing a bit of fabric glue can't solve. Ideally I'd like to use a harder leather to make it sturdier but I'm putting it down as a successful work in progress.

Craft

And finally I have made myself this laptop cover out of wool felt which I really love. Since I took these photographs I have restitched the edges pink and made them a bit neater, I used some leftover Liberty fabric from the lampshade to line it with and I have to say that I got a fair few compliments on it when I took it to work the other day. I think this has to be one of my more successful makes to date...as in, it actually works and doesn't look 'a bit shit'.

The only problem is 100% wool felt is so flipping expensive! But it's definitely still cheaper then buying brand new, so I feel like its a winner all round.

Craft

And next up I need to tackle making Christmas cards, I bought this lino kit in the hopes that it would be super easy and I'd have a work of art in no time but sadly its not quite working out that way. Its actually really difficult to make it look half decent...soooo fingers crossed that I manage to finish them before I miss the last post!

GETTING CHRISTMASSY

Weekend

Christmas is well and truly here in old London town and it's making me giddy with excitement. I love going through each of the seasons so I can't say its my favourite time of year...but right now it is! On Saturday we went into central London to have a mooch around and get Christmassy, we started with breakfast at Nordic Bakery - a cinnamon bun and lingonberry pastry to share.

Weekend

The restaurant across the street had the most beautiful wreaths outside that I couldn't resist getting a snap

Weekend

We walked down towards Regent Street to have a look at the lights, quite subtle and little more to my tastes then previous years I'd say!

Weekend
Weekend

But Carnaby Street have gone ALL out

Weekend

Purchasing art supplies from Cass Art to get some Christmas crafting done (an update on that later in the week...), I always spend way too much money in there.

Weekend

"Just looking" at guitars on Denmark Street

Weekend

And then we headed home to cook up a big Mexican feast; cheesy nachos, homemade guac and salsa included. We may have even cracked out the Baileys, like the oldies we are! Certainly felt a bit more Christmassy after this.

Weekend

Yesterday was all about refreshing the internet, sausage sandwiches, attempting some crafting and finally getting round to watching Peaky Blinders!

Weekend

Not very interesting really but I do love to look back on these kinds of posts. Hope you had a good weekend too!

BACK UP NORTH

Scunthorpe

My dad turned 60 this weekend so we headed back up north to celebrate and it was absolutely freezing, snow flurries and all! I took these snaps on my phone as I didn't have enough room for another camera in my bag. My dads birthday is also handily timed with my annual dentist appointment...so kill two birds with one stone and all that. After my appointment I hung out with my step dad on the Friday, we did our yearly tradition of a full english breakfast followed by charity shopping. I got this leather saddle bag for a couple of quid and nearly came away with a record player and a coffee table but reluctantly resisted as we have no more room in our little London flat. It's one in one out now I think, sad times.

Scunthorpe

Steven got rather attached to this big polar bear at the garden centre and I got rather attached to these cactus even though I'm not allowed them as I'm a cactus/plant killer!

Dad's 60th
Dad's 60th

We went to a nice restaurant for my dads birthday on Saturday night, to start I had parsnip soup that had an onion bahji and mango chutney in, so so good! A festive steak for main and a chocolate torte with mint cream (toothpaste) to finish. Well and truly stuffed.

Dad's 60th

And that was our lovely weekend, another week of work ahead but it's starting to feel rather festive now in London so I think a weekend of getting in the spirit will be on the cards, yippee!

AILSA & BEN'S WEDDING

Ailsa & Ben Wedding

On the 31st October I photographed Ailsa and Ben's wedding. I've known them both since I got my first job in London (we all worked in the same office) so it was lovely to be able to photograph their day for them. Not only were the tables adorned with pumpkins and candles but in keeping with the theme, the bride wore black. The most amazing black dress, perfect for a wedding on Halloween, perfect for wearing again and again actually, it was beautiful. They got married at Shoreditch Studios on a sunny crisp day, and any wedding that serves pie and mash is a winner in my book!
Here's just a selection of the pictures but you can see more over on my website, right here.

WEEKEND SHENANIGANS

1st November
1st November

This weekend was a busy one, I photographed a wedding in Shoreditch on Saturday - it didn't rain! which I am currently working through the edit. It was a good 'un...especially with it being Halloween, a few sneaky surprises in there!
The next day we headed out into a foggy London morning with ridiculous spider webs in the trees

1st November

And spotted this dreamy red car

1st November

This is the tired face of someone who had been on their feet for approximately 10 hours the day before, I wasn't feeling the perkiest at this time in the morning.

1st November

My dad and his wife were in town so we headed up to meet them at the one and only place I will go for breakfast as everywhere else is just a second best - Dishoom! Bacon and egg naan roll with a side of masala beans and a chai tea.

1st November

Steven's scrambled eggs...I'm always tempted to try something else but I can't ever bring myself to do it!

1st November

The Dishoom at Kings Cross is my favourite one - we're yet to try the new one in Soho, the decor is just beautiful and it is huuuuge so not much chance of having to wait like the ridiculous queues at the Covent Garden one. Bonkers.

My dad booked us on a guided tour of the BBC Broadcasting House so we mooched down to Oxford Street in search of the famous curve

1st November

Not so fun flashback: Way back when I had just graduated I 'won' a two week work experience placement at the BBC on the news picture desk. It was at the TV Centre up at White City before they stopped broadcasting from there and I had never been prouder of myself for accomplishing something so big (to me) before, it was the BBC! But at the end of my placement the very nice picture editor put my final degree photography project up on the BBC news website that had got me the placement in the first place (on the Entertainment & Arts bit) and everyone hated it! I got so many hate comments from old men (genuinely was, I clicked on their profiles)... Lesson learnt, I don't think the BBC website was the right place for those pictures to go! Oh well!

1st November

The tour was fun but you actually don't get to see a lot of the building which is a shame. They showed us round the small and scruffy One Show studio and I got to present the weather (interactive tours, blurgh) but we did actually come across Tess and Claudia...

And then I had chance to put my feet up and rest my weary legs...
